Gerapetritis to Diaspora Youth: “You are Greece’s true ambassadors to the world”

The Minister said that Greece is bigger and stronger abroad and the Strategic Plan for Hellenes Abroad will strengthen ties bringing together the new generation

Newsroom November 28 06:22

Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis delivered an inspiring message at the inaugural Greek Youth Diaspora Symposium: “Diaspora Dialogues: Connecting Young Voices Around the World.” He highlighted the unique role of young members of the Greek diaspora as authentic ambassadors of Hellenism to the world.

“We want you with us. You are our true ambassadors,” the Minister emphasized. “While we may have a capable diplomatic corps, it is you who embody the real spirit of Hellenism. You are young, full of ideas, vision, and sensitivities—not only for national issues but for global challenges: the climate crisis, food security, demographic concerns, meritocracy, peace, and prosperity. You are the soul of Greece.”

The Strength of Genuine Voices

Addressing the gathered youth, Mr. Gerapetritis underscored the unique power of their voice.

“You are far more persuasive than we are,” he said. “Your words carry authenticity, selflessness, and a forward-thinking perspective focused on the next generations—something we politicians often miss while managing daily challenges. Your speech, unfiltered and genuine, reaches further than any government representative’s.”

He encouraged them to keep their Greek identity alive in their hearts, expressing admiration for their intellectual accomplishments and their enduring love for their homeland.

Greece’s Strength Lies Abroad

The Minister reflected on the global presence of Hellenism, stating, “Greece is bigger and stronger abroad.” He announced the country’s Strategic Plan for Hellenes Abroad, designed to strengthen ties between Greece and its diaspora, particularly among the younger generation.

He highlighted the establishment of the Youth Diaspora Ambassador Program, describing it as a platform for nurturing young opinion leaders and fostering a new generation of influential Greeks who will contribute to the future of Greece and beyond.

This heartfelt call to action celebrated the diaspora’s essential role in shaping the future of Hellenism on a global stage.
