The Bora storm causes problems in Thessaloniki – Dendropotamos bridge closed

This is the bridge undergoing restoration work since late August due to a detected shift in its side section

Newsroom November 30 01:13

Severe weather conditions from the Bora storm are causing disruptions in Thessaloniki, including the closure of the Dendropotamos Bridge. The bridge, which has been undergoing restoration work since late August due to a detected shift in its side section, suffered further damage early this morning. Heavy and continuous rainfall caused part of the embankment’s retaining wall to collapse.

The bridge connects the KTEL Macedonia junction with Dendropotamos Avenue. As a precautionary measure, the lane for uphill traffic had already been closed during the ongoing repair work.

Following the partial collapse on the closed side, local authorities from the municipalities of Ampelokipi-Menemeni and Kordelio-Evosmos have decided to shut down the entire bridge to all traffic for safety reasons.

According to a joint statement from the municipalities, “The full closure of the bridge is necessary to ensure the safety of those passing through. Thanks to the implemented safety measures, no accidents have occurred.” Drivers are urged to follow the construction signage, traffic regulations, and police instructions.
