Bora storm: Last 18 hours of severe weather and Tuesday’s intense forecast

In force the EMY's emergency weather bulletin - Detailed forecast for tomorrow Tuesday

The Bora storm that has been affecting the country for the past few days is gradually receding. However, the extraordinary weather warning from EMY remains in effect, as heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected in some areas until the early hours of Tuesday (3/12).

Detailed forecast for heavy showers and thunderstorms:

a. In the northern and eastern Aegean islands (Lemnos, Lesvos, Chios) around midday, and in the southernmost parts (Samos, Ikaria) until Monday afternoon. b. In the coastal parts of the eastern and southern Peloponnese, some areas until Monday evening. c. In Thessaly (mainly in the Larissa and Magnesia prefectures) until the early hours of Tuesday. d. In the Sporades, northern Evia, the Cyclades, and the Dodecanese until the early hours of Tuesday.

Weather for Tuesday (according to the National Weather Service):

  • In the west, improved weather with occasional local showers. In the remaining areas, cloudy skies with local rain in the eastern mainland (from Thessaly south), the Aegean, and Crete, with occasional thunderstorms, mainly in sea-coastal areas. The storms, which will be locally strong in Thessaly, the Sporades, northern Evia, the Cyclades, and the Dodecanese during the morning, will gradually weaken and stop in most areas.
  • Winds will blow from the north-northeast, 3 to 4 Beaufort in the west, up to 5 Beaufort in the east, and locally 6 Beaufort in the Aegean, gradually weakening. In the southeast, winds will blow from the south-southeast at 4 to 5 Beaufort, gradually turning to the west-northwest at the same intensity.
  • The temperature will not change significantly. It will reach 12 to 13°C in the northern mainland, 16 to 17°C and locally 18°C in the western mainland, 14 to 16°C in the rest of the mainland, and 17 to 18°C in the Cyclades, Crete, and the Dodecanese.

Weather by region:

  • Macedonia, Thrace: Winds from the east-northeast, 3 to 5 Beaufort, occasionally 6 Beaufort in the morning. Temperature: 5 to 13°C (4 to 5°C lower in western Macedonia).
  • Ionian Islands, Epirus, Western Greece, Western Peloponnese: Occasional snowfall in the morning in Epirus mountains. Winds: North-northeast 3 to 4 Beaufort. Temperature: 7 to 17°C, locally up to 18°C. Interior of Epirus: 4 to 6°C lower.
  • Eastern Sterea, Evia, Eastern Peloponnese: The weather will gradually improve from noon. Winds: East-northeast 3 to 5 Beaufort. Temperature: 8 to 16°C.
  • Cyclades, Crete: Clouds with local rain and isolated thunderstorms in Crete, improving by midday. Winds: From the north, 4 to 6 Beaufort. Temperature: 10 to 18°C.
  • Eastern Aegean Islands – Dodecanese: Weather will improve from midday, with clouds, showers, and occasional thunderstorms. Winds: North-northeast 4 to 6 Beaufort, gradually weakening. South: East-southeast 4 to 5 Beaufort, turning northwest at the same intensity. Temperature: 11 to 18°C (3 to 4°C lower in the north).
  • Thessaly: Winds: Variable, east-northeast 3 to 4 Beaufort, occasionally 5, up to 6 Beaufort in the Sporades. Temperature: 6 to 13-16°C, locally 15-16°C in the Sporades.
  • Attica: Winds: North-northeast 3 to 5 Beaufort, occasionally 6 Beaufort in the east. Temperature: 11 to 15-16°C.
  • Thessaloniki: Winds: Variable 2 to 4 Beaufort. Temperature: 7 to 12-13°C.
