“Rhodes was tested harshly. Dozens of rescue operations were necessary under exceptionally challenging conditions, some of which even required the rescue of the rescuers themselves. The island was reinforced with emergency forces flown in from Athens via a special flight. Since dawn, an emergency message via the 112 system has been issued, banning all movement. Please note, the travel ban is in effect for 24 hours. Damage assessment will not begin until the phenomenon subsides, with the Meteorological Service predicting a recurrence today, Sunday. The state mechanism is on full alert, maintaining constant communication with the Ministry of Civil Protection.

Extensive damage has been reported to the road network, as well as homes and businesses. So far, there are no reports of missing persons, and the region most affected, Ialyssos, is under the supervision of the Hellenic Rescue Team (EMAK). To reiterate, a total ban on movement remains in force,” stated the Governor on Saturday.
