Weather update: Persistent rainy conditions ahead – Regions expecting intense phenomena

Two low temperatures will affect the country until Tuesday - When will it rain in Attica

Rainy weather will continue in the coming days, but meteorologists do not expect it to be as intense as the Bora storm.

As EMY director Thodoros Kolydas says in a post on X, “showers on Thursday in the Ionian Sea, the mainland (except Thrace) and towards the evening in the Cyclades, Crete, and the Dodecanese. Local thunderstorms will occur in the West and South. On Friday and Saturday local showers at times. Thunderstorms will occur in the Cyclades, Crete, and Dodecanese. On Sunday, showers and thunderstorms mainly in western Greece.”

For his part, Sakis Arnaoutoglou speaks of rains that will start today from the west and will affect Attica from the evening.

“Attention will be needed in the Ionian Islands and western Greece starting Friday, as the phenomena will be intense in some places. Rains are expected again in Rhodes. At the weekend, the weather will remain rainy in most areas of the country, while showers will also occur on Monday in Attica,” he says in his forecast.

Giorgos Tsatrafillas warns of two barometric lows (Thursday-Friday, Sunday-Tuesday) that will affect the country in the coming days.

“In particular, they will give plenty of rain in western Greece and a little snow in the mountains. In other areas, clouds will prevail and it will rain at times. It will also not be particularly cold. The prevailing winds will be southerly, which from Sunday onwards will become brisk and reach 8 Beaufort. This seems to be the way the weather will be until the middle of December!”

Today’s weather 

Showers and local thunderstorms are expected mainly on the mainland, in the Ionian Sea, and in the Southern Aegean. The phenomena are likely to have longer duration and intensity in parts of the Eastern Peloponnese. In the northeastern Aegean, as well as in eastern Macedonia and Thrace, clouds are expected to be partly cloudier.

In the Aegean Sea, the winds will be generally easterly winds with intensities up to 4-5 Beaufort. In the Ionian Sea, the winds will blow generally southeast with intensities up to 6-7 Beaufort.

Weather: Increasing clouds with rain mainly in western and central areas. Light snow expected in the mountains of western Macedonia.
Winds: Eastern, 3–5 Beaufort; locally reaching 6 Beaufort in eastern maritime and coastal areas.
Temperature: 6–14°C, with temperatures 4–5°C lower in western Macedonia.

Ionian Islands, Epirus, Western Sterea, Western Peloponnese

Weather: Scattered rain and light snowfall in Epirus mountains.
Winds: Southeast, 4–6 Beaufort, increasing to 6–7 Beaufort in the Ionian Sea.
Temperature: 8–18°C, with 4–6°C lower temperatures inland in Epirus.

Eastern Sterea, Evia, Eastern Peloponnese

Weather: Partly cloudy with localized showers.
Winds: Eastern, 3–5 Beaufort.
Temperature: 9–17°C.

Cyclades and Crete

Weather: Partly cloudy with occasional rain, initially in Crete and later spreading to the Cyclades. Isolated thunderstorms, especially in western regions, increasing after noon.
Winds: Southeast, 3–5 Beaufort, turning southerly and reaching up to 6 Beaufort in the evening.
Temperature: 11–19°C.

Eastern Aegean Islands and Dodecanese

Weather: Overcast skies with localized rain, intensifying in the evening with isolated thunderstorms, especially in the Dodecanese.
Winds: Eastern, 4–5 Beaufort, reaching 6 Beaufort locally.
Temperature: 12–20°C, with 3–4°C lower temperatures in northern areas.

Thessaly

Weather: Cloudy skies with intermittent rain.
Winds: Eastern, 3–5 Beaufort.
Temperature: 8–16°C; up to 17°C in the Sporades.

Attica

Weather: Gradually increasing clouds with rain, especially in the afternoon.
Winds: Eastern, 3–5 Beaufort.
Temperature: 12–17°C.

Thessaloniki

Weather: Cloudy with intermittent rain throughout the day.
Winds: Eastern, 3–5 Beaufort.
Temperature: 8–13°C.

In Macedonia and Thrace, cloudy with scattered showers, particularly in western Macedonia during the morning and eastern Thrace in the evening. Conditions will gradually improve in most areas by evening except for localized rain in the Ionian, eastern Aegean, and Dodecanese.
Winds:
