Weather: Polar jet stream coming to the country after mid-December – Where will it rain today

Significant rainfall yesterday mainly in parts of Crete - The EMY forecast until Friday

Newsroom December 9 08:00

A change in the weather pattern after the second ten days of December, says EMF director Thodoris Kolydas in a post.

A polar jet stream is expected to circle the country from mid-December, which is expected to affect a large part of the country and the temperature in Attica.

According to the post made on Sunday afternoon by the director of EMY, the phenomena that will affect the country will come from the Central Mediterranean without however affecting the temperature to a great extent.

As the meteorologist notes in his post, there is a tendency for the jet stream circulation to change, but it will not show major deviations from normal values, with slightly higher than normal temperatures in Attica.

“In the maps of the air currents and 500hPa-surface we see that until the middle of the month the zonal circulation (movement by parallel) is maintained, where this practically means that the weather does not cool down significantly and we will generally have phenomena coming from the Central Mediterranean,” says Thodoris Kolydas in his post.

“A trend change in circulation is observed just before the end of the second ten days of December, when part of the polar airmass will move south. Practically this movement will intensify the dynamics of the Central Mediterranean systems moving towards our country, resulting in more phenomena but also in temporary cold weather. The trend of temperature change in Athens does not show major deviations from normal values with slightly higher than normal temperatures, “concludes in his post Mr. Kolydas.
