More than 600,000 commuters and a 10% reduction in vehicle traffic in the city centre have been caused by the Thessaloniki Metro in its first 11 days of operation, according to Christos Staikouras.

The Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, speaking at the plenary session of the Parliament on the state budget, said that within 2025 the extension of the METRO in Kalamaria will be completed, the road axis Patras – Pyrgos will be opened to traffic, while in 2026 the connection of the E65 with the Egnatia will be completed.

In 2026, the E65 will be completed by the end of the year, and the E65 will be completed by the end of the year with the completion of the E65.

In addition to these, Staikouras also referred to the draft law being discussed in the relevant parliamentary committee, which he said “attempts to address problems of the railways that have been accumulated for decades.” The minister’s reference to the railway network provoked a reaction from the opposition with New Left’s Efi Achtsioglou reiterating allegations of a cover-up of responsibilities for the Tempi accident.

“Responsibility is judged by actions and not by what someone says to sound pleasant,” the minister replied while expressing a public commitment that by February 2025 the conclusion on Tempi, which is being prepared by the body responsible for investigating aviation and railway incidents, will be made public.
