Las Vegas: Thriller with Tesla Cybertruck that exploded outside Trump’s hotel – First images from it’s inside

The driver of the vehicle was killed and 7 other people were injured - Possible link to the deadly attack in New Orleans is being investigated

Newsroom January 2 08:03

The Las Vegas police have released a series of chilling photos of the interior of the Cybertruck that exploded outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas, revealing an arsenal of improvised explosive devices.

The driver of the Cybertruck – made by Tesla, owned by Elon Musk – has not been officially identified as he was killed in the blast, while seven other people were injured.

Police credited the lack of damage to the Trump Hotel to the strength of the Cybertruck, as it remained mostly intact.

When authorities finally managed to put out the fire, they found burnt fireworks, gas cylinders and other fuel in the back of the truck.

Recall that, just hours earlier in the incident, 42-year-old Samsud Dean Jabbar drove an electric vehicle into a crowd of people in New Orleans, killing 15 pedestrians and injuring dozens of others.

Law enforcement sources revealed that the vehicles used in both attacks were rented through the Turo platform and were both electric, raising concerns that the two incidents are linked.

Police revealed on Wednesday afternoon that they are investigating all scenarios and are not ruling out any possibilities. “I don’t know if it’s a coincidence. We’re looking into whether there’s any connection to New Orleans,” said Las Vegas Sheriff Kevin McMahill.

At a press conference, officers investigating the incident revealed that the Cybertruck that exploded outside Trump’s hotel was rented through Turo in Colorado and driven to Nevada, crossing the border between the two states at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday morning. The explosion occurred just an hour later.

Authorities are still investigating how the explosives were detonated, but sources with knowledge of the investigation believe it was likely done in some way by the driver.

“The driver’s remains are still inside the truck as we speak,” McMahill said, adding that although authorities know the name of the person who rented the vehicle, they cannot yet release that information.

LVMPD Provides Update on Cyber Truck Explosion Investigation

This afternoon, Sheriff Kevin McMahill addressed the media regarding the cyber truck explosion in front of the Trump Hotel. Here’s what we know so far:

Officers are also considering the possibility that the driver intentionally chose to use a vehicle owned by Musk to send a message, given Musk’s recent friendship with newly elected President Donald Trump. “It’s a Tesla truck, we know Elon Musk is working with newly elected President Trump and it’s the Trump Hotel, so obviously there’s a reason to see it,” the sheriff said.

However, the driver’s decision to send a message using the Cybertruck may have actually limited the impact of the explosion. In one of his posts after the incident, Elon Musk claimed that the “evil knuckleheads” who planned the attack chose the wrong vehicle, since the Cybertruck “actually contained the blast and directed the shockwave upward.”

The evil knuckleheads picked the wrong vehicle for a terrorist attack. Cybertruck actually contained the explosion and directed the blast upwards.

Sheriff McMahill confirmed this, saying that the Tesla vehicle did indeed limit the damage. “The glass doors of the Trump Hotel weren’t even broken by the blast,” he said.
