Maris and Savvidis close to a deal for the Open for a price of €37.5 million

The two businessmen had worked together in the past on the publication of the newspaper Ethnos

Newsroom January 2 02:36

Ivan Savvidis is reportedly close to an agreement for the transfer of the television station OPEN to businessman Dimitris Maris, according to reliable information from protothema.gr.

The same sources indicate that the two parties have signed a preliminary agreement for the transfer of shares in the company operating the nationwide television station, with the sale price close to €37.5 million.

The sale price is higher than amounts mentioned during previous discussions with other interested parties.

The apparent sale of the television station comes as Ivan Savvidis seems to wish to disengage from his media activities. OPEN TV is reportedly facing financial difficulties, with annual losses amounting to €25–30 million.

Dimitris Maris is the owner of 24Media, a digital media company (which includes Sport24, News24/7, and others). He had previously collaborated with Ivan Savvidis when the latter acquired Ethnos, and Maris managed its publishing. That collaboration lasted about a year. Dimitris Maris was also one of the primary shareholders of the betting company Stoiximan. In recent years, he has mostly lived in New York and has been involved in various business ventures.

Ivan Savvidis had been actively seeking a buyer for the television station over the past few months.
