Application for appeal against the acquittal decision for the Mandra floods filed with the Supreme Court Prosecutor

"We firmly believe this decision contains serious legal errors, deficiencies, and contradictions," say lawyers representing the victims' relatives

Newsroom January 7 12:05

An application for appeal against the acquittal decision for the Mandra floods has been filed with the Supreme Court Prosecutor’s Office.

Seven lawyers representing relatives of the victims of the Mandra, Attica flood tragedy filed today an application with the Supreme Court Prosecutor for an appeal against the decision of the Three-Member Misdemeanor Appeals Court, which issued an acquittal for the defendants in the tragic Mandra case.

In their statement, they note:

“With shock and indignation, we witnessed last October the acquittal of those responsible from the charge of negligent homicide for the tragic deaths of our loved ones.

We firmly believe this decision contains serious legal errors, deficiencies, and contradictions, both in its reasoning and its dispositive section, which is precisely why this decision must be overturned.

For our part, we will exhaust every legal remedy provided to us by law and procedural rules in order to protect and restore the memory of our unjustly lost loved ones and relatives.

The case is now in the hands of the Supreme Court Prosecutor, who is called upon to do what is necessary, namely, to overturn the acquittal decision of the Appeals Court, restoring a sense of justice and honoring the memory of the victims of this tragedy.”
