Fire in Los Angeles: 69-year-old of Greek descent saved his house from the flames

69-year-old Makis Dasigenis used a hose from his neighbor’s pool to extinguish the flames surrounding his house – “It’s like I knew I could pull it off,” he said

Makis Dasigenis, a 69-year-old resident of Altadena, believes that God helped him save his house from the flames of the devastating fire in Los Angeles.

“I evacuated my house, but I was watching the news and saw that the fires were out of control, so I decided to go back. On my way back, I noticed no one had stayed behind—the atmosphere was surreal,” Makis Dasigenis told Reuters.

When the 69-year-old returned, he used a hose connected to his neighbor’s pool to put out the flames surrounding his house.

“It’s like I knew I could pull it off,” he said. “I’m not stupid—I wouldn’t have gone back to die for material possessions. But I’d regret it if I didn’t try,” he continued, as he was captured on video pouring water to “try to stop the fire.”

“They say a lot goes through your mind when you’re in a battle. But the main thought is about how to survive, and that’s exactly what crossed my mind when I saw those images,” the 69-year-old said.

In the end, Makis Dasigenis, full of gratitude that his house was saved, declared, “I’ll light a candle as soon as I return to Greece.”
