Discussions are held in Cairo on how to implement the Israel-Hamas ceasefire agreement in Gaza

The technical meetings started today in Cairo with the participation of Egyptian, Qatari, American and Israeli teams

Newsroom January 17 04:39

Egyptians, Qataris, Americans and Israeli mediators are meeting today in Cairo to define the “mechanisms” for implementing the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, media outlets linked to the Egyptian state said.

Citing an informed Egyptian source, Al-Qahera News reported that technical meetings began today in Cairo “in order to establish mechanisms to implement the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip with the participation of Egyptian, Qatari, American and Israeli groups.”

During today’s talks, negotiators agreed to facilitate the entry of 600 aid trucks a day, as stipulated in the agreement, the source said.

Trucks are expected from the Egyptian side of the border, where the Egyptian foreign ministry appealed yesterday, Thursday, for a quick, safe and efficient distribution of humanitarian aid.

In announcing the ceasefire, US PresidentJoe Biden said Wednesday that he would “increase much-needed humanitarian assistance to Palestinian civilians.”

Israeli strikes have caused more than 100 deaths since the deal was announced Wednesday, according to rescue services in the Gaza Strip.

The ceasefire is expected to take effect on the eve of Monday’s inauguration in Washington of US President-elect Donald Trump.

The war in the Gaza Strip erupted on October 7, 2023, after Hamas launched a deadly attack on Israeli territory.
