Criminal prosecution against Christos Mastoras – Taken to prosecutor in handcuffs, cap, and mask

The singer appeared remorseful and apologized for the mistake he allegedly made – He was charged with dangerous driving and driving under the influence of alcohol

Newsroom February 3 03:47

The Athens Prosecutor’s Office has filed criminal charges for two misdemeanors against singer Christos Mastoras, who was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol in downtown Athens.

Specifically, the singer, who was referred to the Immediate Trial Court, has been charged with dangerous driving, which could pose a risk to human life, and driving under the influence of alcohol.

Christos Mastoras was taken before the prosecutor, accompanied by his lawyer, Charalambos Lykoudis, wearing handcuffs, a hat, a hood, and a mask. According to reports, the singer appeared remorseful and apologized for the mistake he allegedly made.

The same sources indicate that he claimed he did not stop at the police checkpoint because he did not realize they were signaling him. He also allegedly denied attempting to flee, arguing that if he had intended to escape, he would not have driven toward another checkpoint.

Arrested for Drunk Driving

Christos Mastoras was arrested early in the morning in downtown Athens after undergoing a breathalyzer test.

According to reports, the incident took place at around 2:00 AM at a police checkpoint at the intersection of Stadiou and Aiolou streets. The singer was the third driver in line for a breathalyzer test. While the police were checking the first vehicle, he allegedly attempted to evade the checkpoint.

More specifically, according to police sources (ELAS), the singer reportedly accelerated towards the officer signaling him to stop and fled the checkpoint.

Another traffic control unit in Omonia Square was immediately alerted about the incident. The officers at the second checkpoint stopped the singer and conducted a breathalyzer test. His blood alcohol level was above the legal limit, leading to his arrest.
