Kyriakos Mitsotakis: We are one of the first countries that has developed a coherent national strategy for artificial intelligence

Greece is actively shaping European developments in the critical field of AI, said the Prime Minister from Paris, where he is participating in the AI Action Summit

“We are one of the first countries to have developed a coherent national strategy for artificial intelligence,” stated Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis upon his arrival at the AI Action Summit in Paris, where Greece is taking part as a key player in shaping European developments in this crucial field.

He continued: “We are one of the first countries to have developed a coherent national strategy for artificial intelligence. We are one of the seven European countries that have been awarded the ‘AI Factory’—a significant European funding initiative aimed at developing AI infrastructure across European nations. We are a country with an exceptionally rich pool of scientific talent engaged in the field of artificial intelligence. We are also a country where many major foreign technology companies have already invested, establishing large-scale data processing centers and major data hubs.”

“We are a country that can be at the forefront of smart interventions to control the negative effects of artificial intelligence, and we are already using AI to enhance the efficiency and productivity of public administration. I look forward to a series of substantial meetings and to the opportunity, as I mentioned, not only to leverage AI for a ‘productivity revolution’ in our country but also to identify the areas where state intervention is necessary to mitigate its negative consequences,” Mitsotakis added.

“I will mention once again, as an example, the issue of children’s and young people’s mental health—a matter that concerns me personally and in which Greece has already taken a leading role to ensure that our children and teenagers do not suffer negative impacts on their mental well-being due to their exposure to social media and AI-processed information,” concluded the Greek Prime Minister.
