Tempi: New video of the freight train passing through the Platamonas tunnel before the tragedy

The video shows the freight train passing through the Platamonas tunnel, about 10 minutes before it passes through the Tempi tunnel

Newsroom February 10 11:33

A new video of the movement of the commercial car train involved in the Tempi tragedy was released Monday.

In the video posted on X by journalist Aris Portosalte, the freight train is seen passing through the Platamonas tunnel, about 10 minutes before passing through the Tempi tunnel.

The reporter posted the video to reinforce the authenticity of the previous video of the train passing through the Tempe tunnel, stating that this video is an “opportunity for comparison with previous videos.”

The new video follows the previous videos filed in the case file for the tragedy of Tempe as according to what was made known by the lawyer Vassilis Kapernaros, he presented the visual material to the investigating judge, as the attorney for the company Interstar Security, which is responsible for the security and video surveillance of the railway network. According to his statement, the course of the freight train was recorded by camera 3 at the southern front of the Platamonas tunnel at 23.03.05, by camera 5 at the northern front of the Tempe tunnel at 23.13.52 and by camera 4 at the escape exit of the Tempe tunnel.

The video footage, allegedly retrieved from the company’s computers last November, records, according to the lawyer, the freight train and its cars and does not appear to carry anything suspicious. As Kathimerini newspaper, which brings the videos in question to the public, points out, the legitimate question that arises is why this footage had not been identified earlier. Kapernaros reportedly claims that last November, the security company instructed that all computers in the operations center that use remote log downloads be searched in order to find material related to Tempe that may not have been detected until then.

The company said it carried out the process of retrieving the material on its own and last Wednesday the legal representative submitted it to the investigator. It is noted that in previous cases the assistance of Greek authorities and experts had been requested.

Following the release of the videos, the well-known X account, Georghy Zhukov posted a drone photo taken after the evening immediately after the collision, claiming that “in the dossier there are already drone photos taken on the night of the collision that capture the freight train and its cars and fully confirm the videos.”
