Car crashed into people in Munich – Reports of at least 27 injured people (Update)

The incident occurred during a demonstration by labor union members on Munich's largest street - The driver was arrested

Newsroom February 13 12:41

A car has crashed into a crowd of people in Munich, Germany, police confirmed to Bild. Initial reports suggest around 27 people were injured.

The incident occurred during a protest by the Verdi trade union over wages on Dachauer Straße, Munich’s main street. A large police force and ambulances are at the scene to provide first aid to the injured. It is unclear whether the Mini Cooper was deliberately driven into the protesters or whether there was a problem with the brakes and accelerator.

An eyewitness said the driver deliberately drove the car into the crowd. Other witnesses also spoke of two men, one of whom was shot by police, while the driver of the vehicle has been arrested.

“I was walking with the protesters. When the car entered the crowd, I ran towards it and saw that a man was under the car. Then I tried to open the door, but it was locked,” a witness told BR24, adding that “finally the police came and shot through the car window.”

It is worth noting that the annual Munich Security Conference begins tomorrow, which has the distinction of taking place just weeks after Donald Trump took office as US president. For this reason, approximately 60 leaders will be in the Bavarian capital for three days.
