Staikouras: the Patras-Pyrgos motorway will be ready in 2025

The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport will immediately start the procedures to find funding for the road axis Pyrgos - Alpheus junction - Kalo Nero - Tsakona

Newsroom February 15 08:19

“The Patras-Pyrgos motorway is expected to be opened to traffic, exactly as we had committed, in 2025, with its progress having now exceeded 70%,” Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Christos Staikouras.

Specifically, the 65 km of the road section Pyrgos – Alissos, is scheduled to be completed on July 31, 2025, and to be immediately put into use and operation. The remaining road section Alissos – Midilogli, 10 km long, is scheduled to be completed on 30 November 2025.

As Mr. Staikouras stresses, the completion of the overall project will substantially improve traffic conditions and accessibility to settlements in the wider region of the prefectures of Ilia and Achaia, enhancing road safety levels and reducing time distances.

Furthermore, this road axis will have a significant developmental impact on the whole of Western Greece, contributing to tourism development and improving socio-economic conditions.

It should be noted that by the decision of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, additional supplementary works will be implemented on the motorway within the limits of the Concession project, which include extension and paving of the road network and modifications of junctions. Outside the boundary of the Concession Project, flood protection works will be implemented – among others – along the Patras-Pyrgos motorway.

The Pyrgos – Tsakona

Mr. Staikouras also announces that the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport will immediately start the procedures for finding funding for the Pyrgos – Alpheus junction – Kalo Nero – Tsakonas road axis, while the concessionaire company will be asked to submit proposals for the extension of its construction, taking into account the conditions, the feasibility of financial management and the agreement of the European Commission.

In this way, the Minister noted, the foundations are laid for the closure of the ring road of the motorways of the Peloponnese, Olympia Odos, and Morea, a national vision whose implementation was initiated by the governments of the New Republic with the concession contracts and is now taking shape.
