Alexis Kougias: His condition is very critical, says his son

He underwent chemotherapy and continued to go to court, saying "you know you will die but you have to live beautifully"

Newsroom February 24 11:44

A post on Instagram in which he refers to the “very critical condition” of criminal lawyer Alexis Kougias was made by his son, Christos, on Monday morning.

As he says in a statement co-signed with his sister, Myra, “regarding reports concerning our father’s health, we confirm that his condition is indeed very critical lately, without giving more details.”

Alexis Kougias: Immunotherapy, cancer and his daily life that had not changed

In a recent interview, Alexis Kougias had revealed that he has recently been following a treatment that has resulted in some alterations in his image.

Specifically, he mentioned that he is undergoing immunotherapy, after a series of tests that showed him that in a year or two a cancerous tumor could manifest itself in his body.

Speaking to Proti Lexi and protothema.gr, Mr. Kougias had confessed that he was diagnosed with cancer, but that nothing had changed in his daily life. As he said, he even underwent chemotherapy and continued to go to court, saying “you know you will die but you have to live beautifully”.

Regarding his health problem, Alexis Kougias explained that it all started in 2021 when, after an accident he had on the highway on the day of Saint Nektarios, he decided to fast for the first time in his life. A few days later, he underwent general examinations, where he discovered that he had cancer.

“My health problem arose unexpectedly after the accident I had on the highway, Saint Nektarios, in 2021. I fasted for the first time in many years and after the fast I said I would have general examinations. Which I did. There it was revealed that I had cancer, but I did not have any serious cancer. I had prostate cancer. I had surgery after six months, I am still being monitored. In this process, very important machines have been introduced to the unit, which can, through CT and MRI scans, predict whether cancer may develop in certain parts of the body after a fairly long period of time,” Alexis Kougias explained.
