Over 5,000 police officers, drones, and preventive checks: ELAS’s measures for Tempi protests

A general alert will be in effect from tomorrow, Thursday, for ELAS forces throughout Greece, particularly in Athens, Thessaloniki, and other major cities given the rallies to be held on Friday to mark the second anniversary of the Tempi train accident.

The order given to the ELAS, as Civil Protection Minister Michalis Chrysochoidis said in a statement, is “to safeguard the safety of the demonstrators and the safe conduct of the demonstrations.”

5,000 police officers

In Athens, at the rally to be held at Syntagma Square, security measures will be particularly heightened to prevent any incident.

In particular, more than 5,000 police officers from all law enforcement, security, and traffic services will be on duty during the day. At the same time, the ELAS helicopter will be flying from early in the morning, as well as drones, which will provide an image of the GADA operations center. there will be preventive checks will be carried out in the center of Athens from the morning.

From now on, the police will also be on duty from early morning to midnight.

In the morning, the police will be on duty from early morning to midnight.
Also, security men and women in civilian clothes will be among the assembled people, to isolate in time those who attempt to cause incidents, according to the Athens/Macedonian News Agency.

At the same time, as announced by the ELAS, on Friday there will be traffic regulations from the morning in the wider area of downtown Athens, which will be implemented gradually and depending on the prevailing conditions.

The police appeal to drivers, for their convenience and to avoid additional traffic problems, to avoid crossing and parking their vehicles on the road network of the wider Athens city centre and to follow the instructions of the traffic regulators.
