Newsroom February 28 10:30

With the slogan “We are the voice of all the dead, this crime will not be covered up,” Greek expatriates demonstrated for the tragedy in Tempi outside the Greek Consulate General in Manhattan, New York, and in Athens Square in Astoria.

Holding banners with the phrases “I have no oxygen” and “I do not forget,” Greeks in the American metropolis expressed their support for the families of the victims of the train tragedy, carrying their message of justice.

“We are here not only to honor our dead, but to claim in the name of our people a better tomorrow for ourselves, for the oxygen we have been deprived of as a society. For the peace that our fallen, we and our children deserve,” the demonstration coordinators said.

Greek expatriates paying tribute to the 57 dead of Tempe mentioned one by one their names and the age at which they died, shouting “present” and “present”.

“Due to being abroad, we have mother Greece in our hearts, and we are following the developments in the country. We have gathered here to demonstrate for justice in this matter. We demand impartial justice and the lifting of parliamentary immunity and an end to the cover-up from wherever it is launched,” the protest coordinators also said.

At 7 p.m. (New York time) a pan-generational gathering is scheduled at the Kefalonian House, where the victim’s parent, Dimitris Plakias, among others, has been invited to speak via videoconference, to inform the Greeks of New York about the next steps of the struggle of the victims’ relatives and parents.
