Nvidia in Greece: The team that “quietly” built the subsidiary and its purpose

It appears de facto that the Greek subsidiary will not have a simple commercial role in Greece

Newsroom March 12 02:04

The American technology giant NVIDIA has set up a subsidiary in Greece. NVIDIA GREECE, as it is called, has a share capital of 500 thousand euros, and has registered its headquarters in a building at 56 Ermou Street.

Although a San Francisco-based NVIDIA Group representative contacted by newmoney.gr declined to comment on the move, it appears de facto that the Greek subsidiary will not have a simple commercial role in Greece.

This is because a team of scientists working on photonics systems, the “holy grail” of technology for more efficient, higher volume information handling, and faster operation of chips systems and so on, on which the new generation Data Centers are built, has been operating in Greece for the last few years. In other words, those that will be called upon to support the infrastructure-demanding era of Artificial Intelligence.

All of them are graduates of Greek universities and for years members of research institutions, such as the famous Photonic Communications Laboratory (PCRL) of the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens, which confirm that there is talent that can excel in global competition. In fact, the head of the entire Photonic Systems Department at NVIDIA, and now the head of the Greek subsidiary, is Mr. Paraskevas Bakopoulos.
