Renowned journalist Lambis Tsirigotis has passed away at the age of 82 due to cardiac arrest

Newsroom March 20 11:00

Tsirigotis began his journalism career at the weekly sports newspaper Omada, part of the Lambrakis publishing group, before working in the international news department of To Vima.

He paused his collaboration with the Lambrakis group to study journalism on a scholarship at the school of Lord Thomson, then-owner of The Times group in Cardiff, Wales.

After completing his studies, he worked with British newspapers Western Mail in Cardiff and Liverpool Echo in Liverpool, as well as with the Greek service of the BBC.

From 1979, he served as a London correspondent for nearly four decades, reporting for ERT, the Athens News Agency, and Ethnos newspaper.

Tsirigotis covered numerous international assignments, including the Iranian Revolution led by Khomeini for the American television network CBS.

In addition, he produced around thirty documentaries for ERT on both international and Greek topics. His documentary Greece of the Rising Sun, which explores the influence of ancient and modern Greece on contemporary Japan, won three gold awards in an annual competition organized by Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

His documentary Goodbye, Miss Saigon, depicting life in Vietnam after the civil war, received recognition at Ethnos newspaper’s annual television awards.
