Erdogan: We will not give in to vandalism or street terrorism

The Turkish President's message ahead of the new protests for the arrest of Imamoglu

Newsroom March 21 04:45

Recep Tayyip Erdogan today asserted that Turkey will not tolerate any threat to public order, with the Turkish president pledging to be unyielding against vandalism and street violence amid growing protests against the arrest of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu.

“We will not allow any disturbance of public order. We will not give in to vandalism or street terrorism,” Erdogan said in a speech.

Meanwhile, before a prosecutor at the police station where he is being held, Ekrem Imamoglu has been in custody since 2 p.m. (GMT) on Friday to testify.

It is recalled that the Istanbul mayor was arrested on charges including bribery and membership in a terrorist group. At the same time, the construction company co-owned by Imamoglu was also confiscated, the Istanbul Prosecutor General’s Office said. Control of the company was passed to the Magistrate’s Court based on reports of an economic crime investigation.
