Mitsotakis: New salary increases for Armed Forces personnel to be announced in the coming days

"We must ensure that Armed Forces personnel are adequately compensated so that we can also attract new recruits," emphasized the Prime Minister

Newsroom March 27 04:02

From Paris, where he is attending the Leaders’ Summit for Peace and Security in Ukraine, organized at the initiative of French President Emmanuel Macron, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced upcoming salary increases for uniformed members of the Armed Forces.

Specifically, the Prime Minister stated:
“Next week, in Parliament, we will have the opportunity to present more details on the country’s new defense procurement program and integrate this discussion within the broader framework of the significant geopolitical shifts occurring worldwide. However, in the coming days, we will also unveil an important initiative—the new salary and ranking system for the Armed Forces.”

“The official announcements will be made by the Minister, but I can confirm that, in agreement with the Ministry of Finance, we are in a position to grant substantial new salary increases to our uniformed personnel. These increases are largely funded by savings generated within the Ministry of National Defense through the restructuring of the Armed Forces. It is not enough to simply purchase the most advanced weapons and provide our military with cutting-edge equipment—we must also ensure that Armed Forces personnel receive fair compensation, enabling us to attract new recruits. A comprehensive overhaul of both the salary structure and ranking system is a step in that direction,” Mitsotakis noted.
