“The CIA put me up to it”, said the bank robber in Patras – He stole 23,000 euros, but was caught outside

He told the authorities that he was in a desperate financial situation and wanted to deal with his deadlock

The 54-year-old man who attempted to rob a bank in the center of Patras on Friday morning is being held at the Patras Security facility.

The suspect entered the store at the junction of Corinth and Agias Sofias streets in possession of two guns that turned out to be replicas.

He immobilized the employees and by headlocking a woman he grabbed money in bundles which he placed in a backpack. As he was leaving the bank, police officers intervened and arrested him a few feet from the branch.

According to tempo24, the amount he managed to grab, even if only briefly, was 23,000 euros. When the police officers asked him why he did the robbery, he replied, “The CIA put me up to it.”

According to pelop.gr, the perpetrator was born in 1971, comes from Aigi,o and lives in Patras Beach. The same media reports that the robber was a rookie and carried out his illegal act because, as he told police officers, “my banks have drunk my blood.” As he said, in particular, he was in a desperate financial situation and wanted to deal with his deadlock.

The armed robber stunned an employee to extract money from the safe. An employee managed to activate the alarm, and police forces soon surrounded the scene.

The video shows the robber threatening the store manager with his gun to extract the money.
