Kyriakos Mitsotakis: Need for an ethical framework for the use of AI

The Prime Minister met in Valencia with Roberta Metsola, the Swedish Prime Minister and the Commission's Vice-President for Technology

Kyriakos Mitsotakis held successive meetings with the President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola, the Commission’s Executive Vice President for Technology Hena Virkunen and the Swedish Prime Minister Wolf Kristerson, on the sidelines of the European People’s Party summit being held in Valencia for the second day.

During the meeting with Wolf Christerson, issues of European interest were discussed, with emphasis on the latest developments in Ukraine and the European economy.

The two leaders also discussed issues related to the exposure of minors to social media.

The Prime Minister made a special reference to the tools developed by the Greek government in the framework of the National Strategy for the Protection of Minors from Internet Addiction and stressed that the European Union must find the right balance between the regulatory framework for platforms and technology companies on the one hand and the development of innovation on the other.

The Prime Minister also met with the Executive Vice President of the European Commission for Technological Self-Sufficiency, Security and Democracy, Hena Virtunen

Kyriakos Mitsotakis underlined that Greece has a comprehensive National Strategy for AI, human talent, has been selected for one of the first seven AI Factories in the EU and has a dynamic ecosystem of start-ups in the field of AI.

The Prime Minister stressed the need for an ethical and safety framework for the use of AI, which protects users but at the same time does not restrict innovation and the development of the technology.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis also met with the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, with whom they discussed European agenda issues and European legislative initiatives.
