Weather: Hot and dusty today too – Cooler at the weekend with clearer atmosphere

At 33.6 °C the maximum temperature yesterday - Mud showers expected

Newsroom May 9 09:00

The weather continues in a summer “mood” today with warmth and African dust, however a change of scenery is expected over the weekend.

According to Thodoros Kolydas, “the circulation of systems in the upper levels of the atmosphere is changing and a gradual northerly breeze will gradually prevail over the weekend, which will remove the dust from our region. At the same time, we will see a 5 to 7 degree Celsius drop in average temperatures over the next five days and mercury will be below normal for the season for 5 to 6 days. With this type of system circulation (low index), cold air masses will move from the Northern Balkans to our country, which will cause instability phenomena“.

The Star’s meteorologist in a new post quotes a graph stating: “From a week the red is leaving our area and now we will have plenty of yellow and green in our lives.”

According to OPEN’s meteorologist, Klearchos Marousakis “we will have a retreat of mercury in the next few days, cooler air masses will come but we do not expect anything extreme. Next week the average temperature will be in the 23-24 degree range. In the evening there will even be single-digit temperatures in Northern Greece“.

As the meteorologist said, “from Saturday, but especially on Sunday, a north wind will blow, which will also remove the African dust, while wet deposition – with rain – will help to clear the atmosphere.”

At 33.6 °C maximum temperature yesterday
