Emmanuel Kunde: The Cameroonian legend has passed away – He played in 2 World Cups

Emmanuel Kunde has died at the age of 68 - In 1990, he reached the quarter-finals of the World Cup with the Cameroon national team

Newsroom May 16 10:00

Emmanuel Kunde, one of the most important figures in Cameroon’s football history, has passed away at the age of 68, as announced by the country’s football federation.

With 102 appearances for the national team, Kunde participated in two World Cups, in 1982 in Spain and in 1990 in Italy, where Cameroon became the first team from the “Black continent” to reach the quarter-finals of a World Cup. He even scored the team’s first goal in the quarter-final against England from a penalty, which was ultimately stopped by the English team, who won 3-2 after extra time, ending Cameroon’s remarkable run.

Emmanuel Kundé helped #Cameroon to two AFCON titles – 1984 & 1988.

🎥His 55th minute penalty was all the Indomitable Lions needed to beat Nigeria in the 1998 final in #Morocco.

Another of his penalties secured Cameroon the title at the 1988 Africa Cup of Nations, giving a final 1-0 victory over Nigeria in the final. Although he played as a defender, Kunde scored 17 goals for his national team, which also won the African Cup of Nations in 1984 and was a finalist in 1986.
