Marinakis on lifting the permanence of public servants: It will be discussed in the context of Constitutional Revision, if we get there

Evaluation with consequences is necessary, the government spokesperson emphasized, following the Marc poll for Proto Thema

Newsroom May 19 01:56

Government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis referred to society’s demand for broader reforms—such as the lifting of job permanency for public servants—as reflected in the Marc poll conducted for Proto Thema, during the press briefing with political editors on Monday afternoon.

“As a government, we are among those who understand that nothing remains the same. Those who for decades were labeled as the ‘silent majority’ are now tired of seeing their lives burdened by the loud voices of very small minorities. The country needs bold reforms—such as non-state universities alongside strengthening public ones, postal voting, and a system to combat tax evasion. We need evaluation, not like the SYRIZA-era 97% of employees rated as ‘excellent’, but evaluation with consequences,” Mr. Marinakis added.

He emphasized, “Historically, New Democracy has believed that everyone—including those in the public sector—should be subject to evaluation, and that evaluation should carry consequences. What those consequences will be, and whether we reach the point of lifting public service permanence, will be discussed during the constitutional revision process and at the appropriate time.”

“As you know, such changes require broader parliamentary majorities. It’s encouraging that, after more than a decade of crisis and with many long-standing certainties being challenged, society is calling for change. Everything in its time, and always with an eye on the middle class, which seeks real change in its daily life,” Marinakis concluded.
