Newsroom May 23 07:48

The progress of the works for the completion of the Kalamaria Metro extension in February 2026 was confirmed by the working meeting of the political leadership of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport and the Deputy Minister of Macedonia and Thrace, with the management of Hellenic Metro S.A. and Egnatia Odos S.A., which took place at the Ministry today, Friday.

It was also announced that the concession of Egnatia Odos S.A., for which there is already a contractor, will also proceed by the end of 2025.

In his statements after the end of the meetings, Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Christos Dimas thanked the Deputy Minister of Macedonia – Thrace, Konstantinos P. Gioulekas for the excellent cooperation, as he said, expressing confidence that it will continue.

Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Nikos Tachias said, for his part, that “there is a clear difference between the situation we faced before the delivery of the Metro and the one we are experiencing today. Up until the start of operations on 30 November, the dominant question was when the sheet metal would be removed from the city – indeed, many even questioned the completion of the project. Now, it is common belief that, like the main project, the extension to Kalamaria will become a reality. People are eager to use it and integrate it into their daily lives. For our part, at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, we are working ceaselessly in this direction, with absolute commitment to the goal of completing the extension by February 28, 2026.”
