Projects at the Karaiskakis Stadium will temporarily relocate Olympiacos to OAKA

The management of Olympiacos aims to increase the capacity of the Faliro stadium to 50,000 seats

Newsroom May 27 12:37

Olympiacos’ management has been undertaking extensive preparations for a new, state-of-the-art Karaiskakis Stadium, in light of the upcoming season in the Champions League group stage. The planned investments amount to several millions of euros, primarily aimed at increasing the stadium’s capacity to 50,000 seats or even more.

For the upcoming season, Olympiacos has already sold season tickets, setting new records. With the renovations and upgrades planned, the club aims to host Champions League matches at the revamped Karaiskakis.

It is worth noting that season tickets for the new sporting year sold out by early May, despite the high demand. The club made every effort to accommodate as many season ticket holders as possible; however, due to the specific requirements of Champions League participation, certain limitations remain.

Regarding the timeline and the projects necessary to upgrade the current facilities, the construction work will likely take place from 2026-2027 onwards. During this period, Olympiacos will temporarily relocate to the OAKA stadium. This solution is seen as a practical interim measure while the new Karaiskakis is being built.

Until the new stadium is ready, the team will host its home matches at OAKA—an arrangement that will also coincide with the club’s centennial celebrations this year, during which Olympiacos secured the Greek Cup with a 2-0 victory over OFI and claimed the domestic double.

Historically, the team moved from OAKA to Rizoupoli Stadium in the 2002-03 season, where it remained for two years. The last season Olympiacos played at OAKA was 2001-2002. The most recent European match held at OAKA was a 1-1 draw against Deportivo La Coruña on October 31, 2001.
