AI company CEO warns of rapid increase in unemployment – Which jobs are at risk of disappearing in the future

The CEO of one of the most well-known AI companies in the world, Dario Amodei, warns of a rapid rise in unemployment due to Artificial Intelligence

Newsroom June 3 01:20

“Artificial Intelligence is now surpassing humans in almost every intellectual task, and we all need to face this,” said the head of DeepAI on CNN. “It will become better than me, and better than other CEOs,” he added.

Amodei estimates that AI could eliminate half of junior employee positions and push unemployment in the US to 20% within the next 1 to 5 years. If this happens, unemployment could increase fivefold in a very short period — something that has only occurred during the peak of the pandemic.

This is not the first time experts warn about the risks of Artificial Intelligence. They constantly mention that AI could replace humans in many jobs. Recent research also shows that 4 out of 10 employers plan to reduce their staff due to automation by 2030.

AI Company’s CEO Issues Warning About Mass Unemployment

Amodei’s warning stands out because it comes from a key figure in the industry and because he talks about significant changes. His company, DeepAI, positions itself as a firm that, with its technology, can work nearly as many hours as a human.

Until now, we believed that AI mainly threatened low-wage jobs. However, according to Amodei, AI is likely to reach a point where it could eliminate even more specialized roles that require years of study.

“Changes Will Come Quickly and Be Difficult”
Experts estimate that many jobs — such as paralegal assistants, accountants, financial advisors, and programmers — will change radically or even disappear in the coming years due to AI. Mark Zuckerberg said that within a year, half of the code at Meta will be written by AI. Microsoft’s CEO mentioned that already 30% of the code in his company is generated by AI technology.

Amodei explained that DeepAI is monitoring how people use their models. Notably, about 60% of usage is as assistance in various human jobs, while 40% replaces roles previously performed by humans — and this 40% is continually growing.

25,000 public sector employees will receive bonuses of up to €2,000 this year, based on evaluation using Artificial Intelligence

Recently, his company introduced a new AI model that, as he states, can operate independently for nearly seven hours without the need for continuous supervision.

Amodei believes most people have not realized how quickly AI is evolving and advises the world to learn how to use it.

“The world has adapted to other technological changes, but this is different — it’s progressing faster, affecting more areas, and is harder to keep up with,” he emphasizes.
