Big-5 meeting with UEFA goes virtual; Only Karypidis attended in person

Marinakis, Alafouzos, Savvidis, and Iliopoulos will participate online, while they have sent representatives

Newsroom June 3 06:39

The much-anticipated meeting among Greece’s Big-5 clubs is underway, but only Aris owner Thodoris Karypidis is physically present at the hotel where the talks are taking place. The other four clubs have sent representatives, and the rest are expected to join via video conference.

The gathering was convened at the invitation of UEFA to discuss the new format for European club competitions. UEFA is represented by Secretary General Thodoris Theodoridis and Head of National Associations’ Services, Mario Georgiou.

The agenda is packed: exploring the significant implications of the revamped competition structure, preparing for the upcoming European season, and forging a institutional partnership to maximize the benefits of this positive momentum for Greek football on both national and club levels.

In the Arena, Only Karypidis Shows Up

While the other clubs’ owners are absent in person, they’ve sent their representatives to the meeting. At the forefront, Panathinaikos is represented by Takis Fyssas and Athina Malomenou. For AEK, CEO and First Vice President Minas Lissandrou and General Manager Angeliki Arkadi are participating. PAOK is represented by First Vice President and CEO Maria Goncharova, and Olympiacos by First Vice President Kostas Karapapas and International Relations Manager Kostas Vernikos.
