Forensic pathologist on deceased climber: No signs of bear attack on his body – Death caused by fall

According to the forensic pathologist, there may have been a bear at the site, and the climber might have been frightened and slipped

Newsroom June 11 01:27

The death of the 61-year-old climber was instantaneous when he fell into a ravine during a hike he was doing with his friend in the Fraktos forest of Drama.

According to information, from the forensic examination conducted on his body, no signs were found indicating that a bear attacked him causing him to fall into the ravine, as claimed by his friend who was with him.

From the findings of the autopsy, which was completed this morning, it appears that the unfortunate 61-year-old lost his life from the fall from a great height. Specifically, his body showed fractures from the fall including spinal column fractures (thoracic and cervical), spinal cord rupture, rib fractures, internal bleeding, and 2.5 liters of blood inside the thoracic cavity.

Moreover, no evidence was found related to an attack by a wild animal, such as scratches from claws, teeth marks, etc.

One of the scenarios being considered is that the 61-year-old saw the bear, got scared, slipped, and then fell into the ravine, but the animal did not attack him, since the forensic examination did not find that he had any contact with the bear before falling into the ravine.
