Washington estimates that Iran may “respond” within the next two days

Tehran says it is ready for military operations that could last up to two years

Newsroom June 23 06:20

Washington believes Iran may respond to Saturday night’s attack on its nuclear facilities within the next two days, Reuters reported, citing two US sources.

In the same context, a senior Iranian official told CNN on Monday that the Iranian regime wants the United States to “pay directly for its involvement in the war instead of standing behind Israel and implementing its plan without having to pay the cost,” while expressing Tehran’s readiness for military operations that could last up to two years.

Donald Trump’s decision to order strikes against three Iranian nuclear facilities on Sunday triggered a wave of anti-American sentiment in Iran, with many calling for retaliation. A large anti-US and anti-Israel demonstration was held in Tehran on Sunday night, with many calling for revenge. Israel launched a surprise attack on Iran 11 days ago, and since then, the two countries have been hitting each other daily, leaving hundreds dead.

“Morale is high and the Iranian people’s huge demand to strike Israel is unprecedented,” the official told CNN, adding that the Iranian public’s calls to strike Israel are “a clue to Iran’s intensifying battle plans.”

The official told CNN that Iran believes the calls for a temporary cessation of war were “deception to assess Iran’s readiness to continue the war.” Still, he added that Iran estimates that the war could last up to two years and that Iran is prepared for it.
