Gibson, known for iconic roles in films such as Braveheart and Lethal Weapon, and for directing The Passion of the Christ in 2004, has long been a prominent figure in Hollywood. His visit to Mount Athos highlights his deep connection to Christian spirituality.

In a recent interview on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast, Gibson openly discussed the challenges facing Christian faith in Hollywood. He revealed that during the production of The Passion of the Christ in 2004, he encountered intense backlash, describing Christianity as the only religion that is “allowed to be treated with contempt” in Hollywood. He noted that the film industry is dominated by “progressives and staunch liberals” who, according to him, accept other religions but criticize Christianity for its perceived associations with “whiteness, patriarchy, and colonialism.”

Despite these challenges, Gibson expressed pride in making a film dedicated to the life of Jesus Christ, saying it was his main driving force. His visit to Hilandar Monastery reaffirms his devotion to his faith and its ongoing influence on both his personal life and artistic path.
