Criminal ring behind home raids in Megara and Nea Peramos dismantled — Over €200,000 in stolen goods recovered

Two people were arrested

Newsroom July 2 09:45

Two people, aged 35 and 32, were arrested as part of a coordinated police operation in the early hours of Monday morning (30/6), accused – on occasion – of participating in a criminal group that committed aggravated theft by conspiracy and repeated theft, money laundering, violence against employees and insubordination, while the case file also includes a 23-year-old man.

As to their modus operandi, the defendants, at least since May 2024, committed aggravated thefts in the areas of Megara and Neas Peramos.

Specifically, the defendants approached homes in sparsely populated areas, mainly in the afternoon and evening hours, and with the use of burglary tools, broke into doors, windows, or balcony doors of homes. They would then enter the houses, wearing hoods, medical masks, and gloves to make them difficult to detect, where they would remove jewellery and money.

According to the ELAS, they were using an “operational” vehicle, in which they had either removed or falsified the license plates or installed license plates removed from other vehicles.

A search of their homes and their possessions revealed, among other things, and seized:

– a number of jewellery and watches,
– 3 cameras with a recording device,
– burglary tools (crystal breaking tool, hot air tool, wrench, etc.),
– clothing used in the commission of the thefts,
– a game machine with a scratched serial number,
– 2 mobile phones and
– the sum of EUR 1,865.

From the preliminary investigation of the Department of Crime Investigation and Detection of Crimes of Megara, a total of 28 cases of aggravated thefts in Megara, Nea Peramos and in Kleidi of Boeotia were detected. The illegal benefit gained by the criminal group is estimated at a sum of money over 200,000 euros.

It is noted that during the police operation for their arrest, the 2 accused attempted to escape while the 32-year-old man put up a strong reaction during his immobilization.

The arrested persons were taken to the competent public prosecutor.
