Parliament: ‘No’ to the lifting of immunity of 14 ND MPs who participated in the preliminary investigation of Triandopoulos by the Ethics Committee

The request for waiver of parliamentary immunity was submitted after Maria Karystianou accused the MPs of high treason - It was the first time such a request was made for acts related exclusively to parliamentary duties

Newsroom July 8 02:00

The majority of the Parliamentary Ethics Committee voted against the request to lift the immunity of the 14 New Democracy MPs who participated in the Triandopoulos inquiry at a meeting held on Tuesday morning.

New Democracy voted in favor of rejecting the request. PASOK, SYRIZA, KKE, and New Left declared “present”, while Hellenic Solution, NIKI, and Eleftherias Party voted in favour.

It should be noted that this is the first time that immunity is being requested to be lifted for acts related exclusively to parliamentary duties.

The decision of the Ethics Committee is of a recommendatory and non-binding nature, with final decisions to be taken next week by the Plenary.
