Five changes accepted by the Ministry of Justice in the Code of Civil Procedure during meeting with the Judges’ and Prosecutors’ union

The president and vice president of the Union of Judges and Prosecutors met with Minister Giorgos Floridis and Deputy Minister Ioannis Bougas ahead of the submission of the new Code of Civil Procedure bill to Parliament.

Five amendments proposed by the Union of Judges and Prosecutors to the new Code of Civil Procedure bill were accepted by the leadership of the Ministry of Justice during a meeting with members of the Union’s Board of Directors, according to a statement issued by the Union.

Specifically, Christoforos Sevastidis, President, and Charalampos Sevastidis, Vice President of the Union of Judges and Prosecutors, visited the Ministry of Justice today and met with Minister Giorgos Floridis and Deputy Minister Ioannis Bougas, in view of the upcoming submission of the bill to Parliament.

According to the Union’s statement, the Minister and Deputy Minister of Justice committed to the following:

a) The removal of the proposed provision in Article 307 of the Code of Civil Procedure that would have required judges to inform the parties and the court president of the reasons for any potential delay in issuing decisions on time.

b) The retention of the 8-month deadline for issuing decisions in regular and special procedures.

c) The removal of the obligation for preliminary review of the vagueness of lawsuits.

d) The reduction of the proposed increase in the monetary threshold for the jurisdiction of the Multi-Member Court of First Instance to hear appeals from €80,000 to €60,000.

e) The separate accounting of injunctions and provisional measures in the judge’s annual caseload limit.
