Dimitris Tsiodras calls for EU support for the Greek agri-food sector if US tariffs are imposed

The MEP and spokesman of the New Democracy's Eurogroup asks the Commission whether, in the framework of the negotiations with the US, the necessary emphasis has been given to the needs and interests of this sector and whether there are plans for support measures

Whether and to what extent the Commission is developing measures to support the agri-food sector in the event imposition of tariffs30%on EU exports to the US from 1 August, from 1 August, the Dimitris Tsiodras to the European Commission. The member of the European Parliament and spokesperson of the New Democracy Eurogroup of the New Democracy points out that these tariffs are expected to hurtthe competitiveness of Greek and European agri-food products, increasing their costs and leading to a reduction in their demand.

He adds that in 2024, European exports reached €25.1 billion. while the US market absorbs a significant part of Greek exports (€633 million). Ais reported in detail in them noting that““by way of example, Greek exports of vegetables and fruit amount to €415.5 million., dairy products and eggs at €75.2 million and cereals and cereal preparations at €55.4 million, while the US absorbs 20% of Greek fruit compost exports (with a total value of over €100 million))““

And he concludes by stressing that these dollars add to a number of challenges that the agri-food sector has to manage, such as the impact of the climate crisis on harvest and production.
