Donor found for the 15-year-old boy who suffered heatstroke in Metsovo – He is undergoing surgery in Turin

The minor was taken to Italy on Monday to undergo a liver transplant after suffering acute liver failure

The minor collapsed after suffering severe heatstroke combined with the serious condition of anhidrosis with which he had been diagnosed – He was urgently transferred to Italy on Monday after developing acute liver failure.

There is optimistic news for the 15-year-old from Metsovo who suffered heatstroke a few days ago, as according to the latest information, a compatible liver donor has been found in Turin, and the young boy is currently undergoing surgery.

The liver transplant is expected to be completed by midday, provided everything proceeds smoothly.

It is recalled that last Friday, the minor had gone for a walk in Chaliki Aspropotamos when he suddenly felt unwell and collapsed after suffering severe heatstroke combined with the serious condition of anhidrosis (inability to sweat) with which he had been diagnosed. After being hospitalized in Ioannina and then in the ICU of the University Hospital of Patras, he was transferred early last Monday to Italy to undergo a liver transplant after developing acute liver failure.

Yesterday, while the search for a compatible donor was still underway, his condition had stabilized significantly, giving doctors hope for the young patient’s fight in the coming days.

It is worth noting that doctors had even considered the option of transplanting an incompatible liver to provide one more option for the minor patient.

Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis also expressed his wishes for the successful completion of the transplant.
