Europe surpassed the US by €4.4 billion in contracted military aid to Ukraine

Any Western troops in Ukraine will be considered “legitimate targets”, Russia warns

Based on data from the “Ukraine Support Tracker” at IfW, since the beginning of the Russian attack on Ukraine until the end of June 2025, European states procured through contracts new military equipment worth more than 35.1 billion euros, 4.4 billion more than the total value of armaments procured by the US in the same way during the same period.

According to the Institute, European states now procure almost half of the military aid they provide to Ukraine through the arms industry rather than from the stocks of their armed forces.

Of the 10.5 billion euros of European military aid allocated in May and June this year, at least 4.6 billion is expected to end up in orders to arms companies, a share of 43.8% of all military aid to Ukraine.
