Norway: Princess Mette-Marit’s son accused of four rapes

The four rapes for which Borg Høiby is accused took place in 2018, 2023, and 2024 – He faces a prison sentence of 10 years

Newsroom August 18 06:20

The eldest son of Norway’s Princess Mette-Marit, Marius Borg Høiby, has been charged with 32 offenses, including four rapes, and faces a prison sentence of 10 years, the Norwegian Attorney General announced today.

In addition to the four rapes, Marius Borg Høiby is also accused of partner abuse, assaults, unlawful detention, and recording videos without consent, explained Attorney General Sturla Henriksmbo during a press conference.

“The maximum penalty for the offenses listed in the indictment is imprisonment of up to 10 years,” he added.

“These are very serious acts that could leave permanent trauma and destroy lives,” the attorney general emphasized.

Marius Borg Høiby, whom Mette-Marit had during a relationship prior to her marriage to Crown Prince Haakon, was arrested on August 4, 2024, as he was considered a suspect in an assault against his partner.

These events led to a series of revelations and complaints from other victims.

“The fact that Marius Borg Høiby is a member of the royal family should certainly not result in more lenient or harsher treatment compared to if similar acts had been committed by others,” Henriksmbo stressed.

The four rapes for which Borg Høiby is accused occurred in 2018, 2023, and 2024, the last one after the start of the police investigation.
