Traffic on highways is increasing – More than 6,000 vehicles daily on the Patras–Pyrgos route

Traffic on the country’s highways recorded a 4.58% increase during the first seven months of 2025

Newsroom August 24 08:45

The continuous increase in traffic on modern highways is not just a number; it is a clear indication that drivers are increasingly trusting the infrastructure that offers them safety and comfort. Travel choices are now steadily shifting toward roads that reduce travel time and make everyday life easier.

But behind this trend, there is also a more substantial dimension: modern road arteries strengthen the local economy, facilitate commercial transactions, upgrade the connectivity of regional areas, and bring people closer together.

Traffic during the first seven months of 2025 on the country’s highways recorded an overall increase of 4.58% compared to the corresponding period of 2024, confirming the continued strengthening of road mobility.

For example, on Olympia Odos, traffic in the first seven months of the year increased by 4.04%. Mobility remains high throughout August, with available data showing an annual rise of about 3.2% compared to the same month in 2024, confirming that even at the peak of the tourist season, road infrastructure effectively responds to increased travel needs.

Contribution to road safety

At the same time, the contribution of highways themselves to road safety remains significant, through rapid technological progress such as Smart Tunnel Monitoring and the digital Olympia Pass experience of Olympia Odos. All these elements create a travel environment that is not only safer but also offers drivers a unique experience. The journey is no longer limited merely to transportation. From the first entry onto the highway until the final exit, the road becomes an integral part of the travel experience—a link that connects with safety, comfort, and reliability.

The same feeling continues on the new section of the Patras–Pyrgos Motorway, which was opened to traffic on August 1. From its very first month of operation, it has already begun shaping a new reality for road travel in Western Peloponnese, boosting both tourism development and accessibility to the wider regions. Average daily traffic amounts to about 6,000 vehicles per direction in the area of Kato Achaia and about 3,200 vehicles in the area of Pyrgos.
