Yungblud’s eccentric appearance at the MTV VMAs and the poses that divided fans

Some viewers described it as a “chaotic style that perfectly matches his image,” while others compared him to 1990s vampire characters

Yungblud stole the spotlight on the red carpet at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards with an appearance that sparked heated discussion.

The 28-year-old rock star, born Dominic Richard Harrison, chose to walk shirtless, wearing only black leather pants, boots, and metallic accessories. With heavy eyeliner, slicked-back hair with strands falling across his face, he posed for photographers with outstretched arms and a bent knee — poses that drew strong reactions.

On social media, reactions were mixed. Some expressed concern over his look, while others jokingly compared him to Spike from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Supporters, however, praised him: “When someone stays true to their aesthetic even on the biggest stages, it creates powerful moments,” one user wrote, while another noted he “exudes grunge and early ’90s Seattle rock vibes.”

At the same event, held at UBS Arena in New York, Yungblud also paid tribute to Ozzy Osbourne. The two had grown close in recent years, with the young musician describing him as a “father figure.” Following Ozzy’s passing in July, Yungblud delivered an emotional speech at his funeral and performed at the farewell concert in Birmingham.

His appearance at the VMAs was among the most talked-about of the evening, during a ceremony where Lady Gaga won Artist of the Year, beating out Taylor Swift and other music heavyweights.
