Mitsotakis–Christodoulides Meeting in New York: Greece and Cyprus are fully committed to implementing the Electricity Interconnection

The Cypriot President briefed the Greek PM on the latest developments regarding the Cyprus issue and the priorities of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU

The President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nicos Christodoulides, and the Greek Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, held a meeting on the sidelines of the 80th UN General Assembly.

At the conclusion of the meeting, a joint statement was issued in which the two leaders reiterated that Greece and Cyprus are fully committed to the implementation of the electricity interconnection project.

“During the meeting, the excellent bilateral relations were reaffirmed, while President Christodoulides briefed the Greek Prime Minister on the priorities of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union, and they discussed the topics to be raised at the upcoming Cyprus–Greece Intergovernmental Summit, which will take place next November in Greece.

Regarding the Greece–Cyprus electricity interconnection project, they reiterated that both governments remain fully committed to implementing this strategically important project, as do the President of the European Commission and the President of the European Council, who are fully informed and supportive of the project’s implementation.

The President of the Republic also informed the Greek Prime Minister about the latest developments on the Cyprus issue, in particular regarding the upcoming joint meeting with the Turkish Cypriot leader, which will take place under the UN Secretary-General on 27 September.”
