Babis Anagnostopoulos: Submits an appeal against the Court of Appeal’s decision on the murder of Caroline in Glyka Nera

The Court of Appeal had upheld the first instance sentences of life imprisonment, a suspended sentence of 11 years and 6 months and a total fine of 21,000 euros

Bambis Anagnostopoulos’ intention to file an appeal against the Court of Appeal’s ruling on the murder of his wife, Caroline, in Glyka Nera, his lawyer announced.

It will be recalled that the Court of Appeal, in its decision on the sentences, upheld the first-instance sentences imposed on Bambis Anagnostopoulos. Thus, the accused was again sentenced to life imprisonment, a provisional sentence of 11 years and 6 months, and a total fine of 21,000 euros.

“Everyone has the right to a fair trial. To have one of their own so that what has not been heard in the first instance court can be heard,” Bambis Anagnostopoulos’ lawyer told ANT1.

According to him, “it doesn’t change what he (Anagnostopoulos) has said, but just before, just after the offence, what happened and what didn’t happen, maybe they should be more enlightened.” Explaining the rationale for the appeal, he added that “Babis was never heard because he was taken to the Malandrinos prison in absentia and had two lawyers without his knowledge, and that is grounds for an appeal.”

However, he added that “for all this to be heard, the petition should be granted.”

Speaking about his client’s life in the prison where he is being held, Bambis Anagnostopoulos’ lawyer said that “he is a supervisor in the accounting department,” adding that “there is no communication with the child (little Lydia, he had with Caroline). They forcibly took the child to the Philippines, and even his grandparents couldn’t have him. I know they changed her  surname.”

“He is a man who has realized that his life is ended, there is nothing for him, there is scorched earth,” concluded Bambis Anagnostopoulos’ lawyer.
