Meeting between Greek and U.S. Navy chiefs: Focus on the progress of the Hellenic Navy’s armament programs

The Chief of the Hellenic Navy, Vice Admiral Dimitrios Eleftherios Kataras, held meetings with senior U.S. Navy officers during his official visit to the United States from October 7 to 13, 2025, following an invitation from his counterpart, Admiral Daryl Caudle, Chief of Naval Operations (CNO).

The scheduled bilateral meeting between the two Navy Chiefs took place at the historic Carpenter’s Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Discussions focused on issues of mutual interest and initiatives to further strengthen cooperation, reaffirming the excellent relations and prospects for interaction between the two naval forces.

As part of the visit, Vice Admiral Kataras also attended the 250th Anniversary celebrations of the U.S. Navy (Navy Marine Corps 250 Commemoration) in Philadelphia. On the sidelines of the events, he held a bilateral meeting with the Chief of the French Navy, Vice Admiral Nicolas Vaujour, and had discussions with U.S. Secretary of the Navy John Phelan.

During his stay in Washington, D.C., the Hellenic Navy Chief met with Rear Admiral Raymond P. Owens III, Director of the Naval International Programs Office (NIPO), to review the progress of Hellenic Navy armament programs under NIPO’s supervision. He also visited the Embassy of Greece, meeting with Ambassador Katerina Nasika, as well as Greek military personnel serving in the U.S. across all branches of the Armed Forces.

Additionally, Vice Admiral Kataras visited the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California, where he met with Vice Admiral (Ret.) Ann E. Rondeau, the university’s president. He was briefed on academic programs related to Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Unmanned Systems, as well as on the progress of the U.S. Naval Innovation Center (NIC). He also had the opportunity to meet with Greek Navy officers currently studying at the institution and was updated on the progress of their training programs.
