From landfill to recycling: The industry’s plan to tackle the waste crisis

In favor of energy recovery but with proper prioritization of the necessary steps - Bell from SEPAN for Attica in which 50% of the country's waste is produced

Newsroom October 30 10:06

Greece still buries 85% of its waste, while Europe is calling for that figure to be reduced to 10% by 2035.

This is undoubtedly an ambitious target, considering that today our country is below 20% in recycling rates – but necessary if it wants to move into a new era of sustainable waste management, adopting the basic principles of the circular economy.

The Association of Production and Recycling Enterprises (SEPAN), led by its president Lena Belsi, yesterday presented a “realistic transition” plan based on four axes of direct intervention: strengthening recycling, completing the necessary infrastructure, staffing public services and promoting energy recovery.
