Historic “Estia” newspaper building’s conversion into a hotel in central Athens put on hold

The foreign investors - owners of the property will have to proceed to the re-drafting and resubmission

Newsroom October 30 01:34

Return and resubmission of the studies for the investment plan for the conversion of the listed building of the newspaper “ESTIA” into a 4-star hotel. The property at 7 Anthimou Gazi Street in the centre of Athens, acquired in 2023 by foreign investment funds, is to be reconstructed, including the addition of a new structure.

The “brake” on the owner Estia JJC S.A. Real Estate Development, a foreign interest, was put on hold by the Culture Ministry because “the proposed interventions cause damage to the monument”. All the studies should be redrafted to be compatible with each other and complete, “taking into account the scope and type of interventions on the monument and the development of the new section on Karitsis Street, in order not to contradict the building regulations.”
